A new Carillon Bell System has been installed at St. Brigid
Church in Memory of Rev. Daniel Sheehan.
The chimes will now be rung on the Hour from 10AM to 6PM every day, as
well as at Funerals, Weddings and Special Feasts. Starting
January 1st, a $35 donation can be made in memory of your loved one
each week to have the bells chime in honor or in memory of your loved one.

RONAN TYNAN IN CONCERT

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross presents Ronan Tynan in Concert on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Ronan Tynan is known for unique voice, inimitable appeal, and his many appearances in the public eye; including his performance at Ronald Regan’s funeral singing “Amazing Grace” and “Ave Maria.” Tynan’s Performance will feature music selections from Traditional, Irish, Religious, and Classical venues. This event will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, located at 1400 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02108. Doors will open at 6pm and the performance will begin at 7pm.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Kindergarten – 4th Grade
Registration is ongoing for those who are interested in enrolling their child/children in the Gate of Heaven/St. Brigid Religious Education Program. The next class is February 5th.
CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
8th Graders: Confirmation II Class Schedule
Confirmation II consists of ten classes from January – April for all 8th grade students culminating in the Confirmation Ceremony on April 25th at 5:30pm at St. Brigid Church. The registration fee this year is $50.
Next class will meet
on Sunday, February 12th at 4:30pm.

Adult Confirmation Classes – February

Brother Steve Fahrig, our Pastoral Associate, will offer a Confirmation Preparation Course for adults 18 years and older starting on Thursday, February 2nd. This course will take place once a week for 6 weeks. Those preparing for Confirmation must have already received Baptism and First Communion.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION (Pre-Cana) PROGRAM

The Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid Parishes Marriage Prep Program will be held on Friday Night March 23rd and Saturday March 24th. Couples who are being married at our parishes will receive a registration letter in the next few weeks. Those who are being married outside our parishes and would like to attend our program are asked to call the Office after March 1st to check on available space.
Married Couples Needed – Married couples who would like to assist our Marriage Prep Team are asked to call the Parish Office this week. We are in need of a few couples to assist in this most important ministry! Please call the Parish Secretary if interested.

Bergin is a priest of the diocese of Ossory (Ireland). He was rector of the Pontifical Irish College
in Rome from 2001 - 2011. He is
currently visiting professor at Boston College. A native of County Laois, he taught at St
Kieran's College, Kilkenny before undertaking graduate studies at the Gregorian
University in Rome. He has written and
edited a number of books in theology and has commented on many contemporary
Church issues in the media.

Update on Gate of Heaven Property
Update -- Sale of the Former School Property: The Archdiocese is assisting the Parish in seeking out a suitable buyer for the school property. During the Fall months we were very close to selling the school to an investment group that was planning an Assisted Living Facility. At the last minute, this group pulled out and informed the Archdiocese and the Real Estate Broker that they could not proceed with the purchase and future plans. The Archdiocese is now in negotiations with another developer interested in constructing apartments in the former school building. Please know that the Archdiocese and the Parish are making choices that will ensure that the new owners will be good neighbors and have had an excellent reputation in developing properties in the Boston area.
New Reconciliation Room at Gate of Heaven
As promised during our grand
annual collection, a new confessional/reconciliation room for Gate of Heaven
Upper Church is currently being built.
The new confessional has been designed by local artists and will be constructed
of beautiful wood to match the existing Church’s style. It will be placed in the rear of the Church
on the I Street side. The
reconciliation room will be spacious to allow for face to face, or behind the
screen confessions. When it is
installed, confession will be available on Saturday afternoons prior to the 4PM
Mass. Until construction is complete
– hopefully by the beginning of Lent -- parishioners seeking the
sacrament of reconciliation are asked to make an appointment with the priest or
attend the scheduled times at St. Brigid Church (Sat 3:30-3:50PM and Sun
5:30-5:50PM). You can see the progress on Gate of Heaven Facebook page.
HOLY FAMILY STATUE &
GRANITE CELTIC CROSSS
at GATE OF HEAVEN
The New Holy Family Statue, which is the centerpiece of the new garden on the I Street side of the Church has been installed and looks beautiful. The statue is in honor of the Sisters of St. Joseph who dedicated their lives to educating the children of Gate of Heaven Parish for over 100 years. Our newly landscaped courtyard on the I street side is home to our beautiful new Celtic Cross, in memory of the Priests and Pastors of Gate of Heaven Parish over the last 149 years.
Attempted Break-Ins at Gate of Heaven Church and School
This past Tuesday there was an attempted break-in at the Gate of Heaven School and Church around 8:30PM. A window was broken and they tried to force the doors open. Boston Police Detectives from District 6 have been investigating all week. If you notice any activity near the doors or windows of the school or church – please call 911 and report it immediately. Thanks!
